I'm Amelie, 23 years old, and I completed my Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning in April 2024. I studied at TU Dortmund.

But let's start from the beginning: Ever since I was a child, two hobbies—drawing and photography—have been part of my life alongside sports. My camera is my constant companion, both in everyday life and when traveling. Through photography, I discovered my fascination for architecture.

Whether old or modern, subtle or extravagant—buildings always make for stunning photo subjects. The viewer's perspective is often crucial in shaping first impressions of a structure. As a photographer, I can control the angle, capture specific atmospheres, and preserve them. This led me to develop a deep appreciation for details and realize the many expressive possibilities architecture offers.

Drawing is another great way to capture moments and objects. Whether through quick sketches on-site or detailed copies of photographs, it encourages a more profound engagement with what I see.

I take great joy in discovering aesthetically harmonious compositions that evoke emotions in people. That’s why I particularly enjoyed the creative courses during my studies. In the early semesters of my bachelor’s, we attended many courses where entire designs had to be drawn by hand.

Deciding on the right pen thickness and hardness automatically made us think more critically about the relevance of individual building components. We learned to intersect geometric forms by hand, create execution plans, and depict shadows. This knowledge is incredibly beneficial when working with digital CAD programs, as it helps to grasp the effects of different representation techniques much more intuitively.

Alongside my studies in Dortmund, I participated in annual drawing competitions and courses to continue learning and pursuing my passion. It makes me happy that my future profession aligns so well with my personal interests. For example, I have already taken part in two excursions outside the Technical University.
